Radio Tuning

This is a simple technique to gauge a team’s majority opinion, and can be done to quickly check in and understand how a team feels or their current perspective etc.

Radio Tuning

Tasks

  1. Draw a horizontal line as the range, with a picture at both ends of the line to represent both extremes. (These could be a happy face at one end, and a sad face at the other end to represent the mood of the team for example.)
  2. Ask the team the question to be answered
  3. As the facilitator, point to one end of the line that represents one extreme, and slowly move it along the line towards the other extreme
  4. Encourage the team to raise their hands when the position of your finger closely represents their response to the question
  5. Feel free to go backwards and forwards as a bit of fun to finely tune when you have the most hands in the air, (the strongest radio signal,) and when you have a majority response simply mark it on the line as where the majority decision of the team lies

This technique does cater for the majority decision and does not necessarily cater for the outlier.
